Test Results for Sound-Proof Floors

Easyscreed has commissioned an independent tester to assess the sound insulation performances of various floor make-ups, incorporating Ethafoam and Enkasonic acoustic mats, with an Easy Screed topping. Tests were carried out at various sites, including new apartments and housing developments, refurbishments and commercial buildings and hotels.

Testing of Impact Sound Insulation
Measurement of impact sound insulation between floors is carried out by using a “tapping” machine to stimulate foot-fall. Measurements are then recorded to see how much noise actually presents in the receiving room. For Impact a LOWER db (decibel) result is better.

Testing of Airborne Sound Insulation
On-site measurements are carried out by creating a noise level similar to that of a jet airplane. Measurements are then recorded to see how much noise is stopped from travelling between the rooms by the floor structure. For airborne a HIGHER dB(decibel) result is better.

The test results are presented below. The combination of Easy Screed and each of the acoustic solutions, meet and exceed the current building regulations.

Airborne Test Results – Higher dB result is better DnT,w
Building Regulation Part E of the Technical Guidance Document Minimum Requirements 52dB
Bare Floor Boards 33dB
40mm Easy Screed with Enkasonic acoustic mat over concrete floor construction 60dB
40mm Easy Screed with Enkasonic acoustic mat over timber construction 56dB
40mm Easy Screed with Ethafoam acoustic mat over timber construction 56dB
50mm Easy Screed with Lewis Sheeting, on resilient strips placed directly above the line of supporting floor joists 50dB

Impact Test Results – Lower dB result is better DnT,w
Building Regulation Part E of the Technical Guidance Document Minimum Requirements 61dB
Bare Floor Boards 81dB
40mm Easy Screed with Enkasonic acoustic mat over concrete floor construction 49dB
40mm Easy Screed with Enkasonic acoustic mat over timber construction 55dB
40mm Easy Screed with Ethafoam acoustic mat over timber construction 61dB
50mm Easy Screed with Lewis Sheeting, on resilient strips placed directly above the line of supporting floor joists 49dB
