Easy Screed can be poured from 10mm to 50mm. When used as a topping over underfloor heating the minimum depth we can pour is 35mm over standard 16mm underfloor heating pipe. There are many pipe sizes and ways to install the pipe, including clipping directly onto insulation or installation of a track to clip the pipes into. Our requirement is that there should be 20mm of Easy Screed over the highest point of the underfloor heating pipe. For example, if you are using a 16mm pipe, clipped onto a high density insulation then 35mm of Easy Screed is sufficient. If your plumber chooses to install the pipes using a 25mm track, then a 45mm screed will be required. Remember, the thinner the screed the better for reducing the lead-time to get your heat into the rooms.

Easy Screed will initially set within 9 hours, after which it can take light traffic.
The actual drying time will be dependent on a number of factors:
a) external weather conditions
b) if there is underfloor heating in the floor
c) internal building temperature
As a rule of thumb, in natural drying conditions (with no heat) Easy Screed will dry at a rate of 1 day per millimetre poured at a room temperature of 20ºC . This, however, can be sped up by turning on the underfloor heating system 7 days after the screed has been poured.

Yes, over concrete slab and joists and ply/OSB. Because Easy Screed is poured at a lesser thickness than conventional screeds, it is weight saving and therefore suitable for use on the first floor of buildings.

Final floor finishes should not be installed until you are sure the floor is fully dry (see above). The following should be checked before the finishes are laid:
a) the underfloor heating turned on
b) a moisture reading taken on the floor to ensure the correct level has been achieved for the specific floor finish
c) if tiling, a primer, suitable for use with anhydrite screeds, should be painted over the floor before the adhesive is laid.
PVA PRIMERS SUCH AS POLYBOND OR UNIBOND ARE NOT SUITABLE PRIMERS FOR USE WITH UNDERFLOOR HEATING OR EASY SCREED.

Yes, Dependent on the stage of build you are at, we can offer various solutions. The most straight forward way to accommodate for a the reduction in screed depth, is to increase the depth of insulation being installed.

Preparation of the sub-floor is required to de-bond the Easy Screed from existing, generally cement-based sub-floors. Direct contact with cemetitous floors can cause the cracking in the sub-floor to carry-through to the Easy Screed, therefore it is best practice to debond the screed.

We require that a plastic membrane is installed, sealed and taped to contain the Easy Screed during the initial pouring process. Also, manufacturers of high-density insulation also generally recommend the installation of a polythene sheet between any screeds and their insulation. Therefore, it is best-practice to install the plastic membrane rather than taping the joints of the insulation.

Yes. We recommend in the installation of a 50mm screed in areas with heavy traffic on the floor.

Easy Screed rapidly reaches high strength within 48 hours of pouring. Once fully cured, strengths of approximately 25N are achievable.

Yes. Whilst poured on it’s own, Easy Screed will have sound-proofing qualities given it’s density, we recommend the installation of an acoustic mat (Ethafoam/Enkasonic) before installation of the Easy Screed. Use of these materials will enhance further the soundproofing properties of your floor.

The materials contained within Easy Screed are very different to those of traditional concrete/sand and cement screeds. The unique binder materials used, are high-strength, allowing for a thinner floor screed, and flowing, resulting in a smooth and flat floor finish. Traditional screeds are generally bulked up to 75mm, and may require the addition of fibres, to try and prevent standard problems of cracking and shrinkage. Such problems are not encountered with Easy Screed, even pouring at 35mm.

Most standard domestic installations are complete in just a few hours on-site. Our teams can install approximately 600m² per day.

The typical floor build-up that we find is the installation of insulation as required OVER the concrete sub-floor, which is covered with a 500 gauge plastic membrane. An expansion joint is installed around the perimeter of each room, on both internal and external walls. The underfloor heating pipes are then clipped in, if being installed, all before being covered by Easy Screed.

Easy Screed can be installed once the building has been fully enclosed. Because of the simple application process, it is our recommendation that the building has been fully roofed, windows installed and internal plastering complete before considering the installation of underfloor heating and Easy Screed. By leaving the installation until the end of the build, there is minimal risk of damage being done to the underfloor heating pipes, and the pipework is near-to the finished floor rather than buried beneath 4-6″ of concrete.

We recommend the installation of the underfloor heating pipes using the clip method. In doing so, the pipes are well secured to the insulation and will not float during the screed pour. Also, by clipping the pipes down, the screed depth can be kept to a minimum. Where a track is used to install the underfloor heating pipes, a minimum of 40-45mm depth screed is required to ensure coverage of the pipes.

Easy Screed can be poured over both existing timber floors in refurbishments and over new timber floors (joists & ply/OSB) in new-builds, even in timber-frame houses. We generally recommend installations over a thin layer of insulation, for thermal or acoustic reasons, prior to the installation of the Easy Screed.

No. Easy Screed is a bagged product, mixed on your site in a compact pump-mixer, approximately the size of a car. We also bring a tipper sized truck to site with the materials. If access or space is a problem, please contact us as we have a fleet of vehicles to suit all sites.

The floor can be lightly trafficked the day after the Easy Screed pour, so work can recommence. The initial setting time for Easy Screed is 7-9 hours.

Site preparation involves installation of a plastic membrane to cover your chosen insulation, which will need to be taped and jointed, marking-up of a datum line 1 meter above finished screed level, and installation of an expansion joint around the perimeter of each wall. We will require a continuous strong supply of water on site. Before every project we work at, we will conduct a site visit to discuss the preparation with you. Easy Screed will easily achieve a SR2 floor finish with tolerances as classified by BS8204. This floor is ideally suited for installation of tiles, timber flooring, carpets and all other standard domestic floor finishes. Highly specialised floors, such as marmoleum or vinyl, that require a SR1 class floor will require addition preparation.

Easy Screed can be installed into wet rooms once a DPM is installed to seal the screed fully before installation of the final tiles.

Easy Screed is perfectly well suited for installation on both the ground and first floor of Timber Frame houses.
